what do you do in your spare time? Spare time? What is that?
name of business: little jay designs
what do you sell? Handmade unique goodies. No two pieces are the same. Pieces range from Clay, Metal, Bluegum and Fabric Button Earrings to Leather Bunting, Clay, Felt and Bluegum Necklaces. Ideas and Creations are expanding all the time.
why did you start your business? little jay started as creative outlet for myself on weekends. It all started with making my own funky studs as I could not find any cool enough that had sterling silver posts and backs. Once I started making a few for myself, my friends wanted some, and then their friends, and it has grown into what it is today.
what is your favourite thing about having a small business?
The flexibility of being able to work from home whenever...and to be able to work in your slippers and a hoodie.
what is your least favourite thing about owning a business?
Tax time. I am not the greatest bookeeper and end up doing an entire years worth at tax time.
what inspires you to create your stuff?
Everyday items in nature. shapes from books. A lot of my most successful creations are accidents. Happy accidents but accidents all the same. Often I try to make something and it fails and I adjust it and end up making something new and often better.
where do you see your business in 5 years?
Still plugging along as my creative side project. I don't really want to take it to a full time level as I think it would feel too much like a job rather than enjoyment.
tell us one random fact about youurself.
I am not a giant jewellery wearer myself.
Even with all this jewellery at my disposal. I enjoy making it for others and making them happy.
